Dear respected Shaykh, assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. What is the value which should be compulsorily given to a person who deserves Zakat? قدر ما يعطى من يستحق الزكاة

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions.   Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As to what follows: In response to your question, we say: The principle in Zakat that is given to deserving people is that they should what is sufficient for them. This differs according to each type of the eight types of the recipients of Zakah whom Allah mentioned in His book.  Thus the value is not limited to a year or less than a year. A traveler is given money that enable him to reach his country, and it is not imperative to give him money that will suffice him for a year, because he could be a rich person in his country. A debtor is given what is sufficient to repay his debt, and it is not compulsory to give him more than that. However, the jurists stated that a poor person and a needy person are given what is sufficient for them for a year. Other recipients of Zakat besides these two are given according to their need.
