Is drilling of wells is regarded as an ongoing charity? How do people benefit from an ongoing endowment? حفر الآبار صدقة جارية

In response to your question, I say:

Wells which are dug are considered as an ongoing charity as long as people benefit from them. An ongoing charity is that charity which has a continuous benefit although perpetuity is not a requirement because there is nothing which lasts forever. ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) endowed his share of the booty from the battle either Khaybar or Tabuk which consisted of sheep but none the less the endowment did not last till today, not only that, but they gradually became less in number and eventually vanished. That is the case with endowments. However a person can benefit from his ongoing endowment or charity by two ways:
- By way of good and benefit that arise from the endowment.
- By the intention of continuity of this good.
Allah the Exalted gives many rewards for small acts.
