What should someone experiencing vaginal discharges do? الإفرازات الخارجة من الفرج

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions.

As to what follows:

In response to your question, we say, and with Allah Almighty lies all success:

It may be that the questioner is afflicted by a type of spotting or dripping that affects many people. This dripping and spotting is of two scenarios:

The first scenario: If it is for a limited time, meaning that the spotting is consistent for a minute, two minutes, or five minutes, and then stops. So in this case we say, wait until the dripping has stopped, then wash [the private area], make wudhu for prayer and pray what you wish of the prayers.

The second scenario: If the dripping is inconsistent or continuous, then this is an inability to control, and the ruling on it according to the scholars is that this discharge does not affect the validity of prayer, nor the validity of spiritual purity.

What you should do is place something there to prevent the spread of this discharge, then make wudhu for prayer and pray what you wish.

There are also scholars who are of the opinion that you should make wudhu for every prayer. This is the opinion of one group of the people of knowledge. The other opinion is that it is not compulsory, but that rather it is better for you to make wudhu for every prayer; and this opinion is closer to being correct.

Furthermore, what is wudhu nullified by? It is nullified by any discharge other than this continuous discharge that does not stop.

Therefore, we say that dripping is of two scenarios: Either it is for a limited time and consistent, in which case one should wait until it stops and then make wudhu for prayer, and nothing is due on the person; or it is inconsistent or continuous, in which case one should place something to prevent the discharge from coming out, then make wudhu for prayer, and whatever comes out will not affect the person. Moreover, it is better for one to make wudhu for every prayer.

And Allah knows best.
