Respected Shaykh, assalamu alykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. I am a nurse who works in a mix-gender hospital, and I try to stay far from men as much as I am able to. But sometimes I cannot avoid revealing my hands to them during my work, so am I sinful in doing so? كشف المرأة لشيء من جسدها للحاجة

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.   Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions.   Wa alykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.   A woman is permitted to reveal a part of her body, if there is a need to and if she is safe from fitnah (harm to self or faith). So a doctor or nurse may reveal as much as is needed, if she is safe from fitnah, while at the same time trying to avoid doing so as much as possible, for the devil flows in a person like his blood.

Your brother, Dr.

Khalid al-Muslih
