Is it permissible for the husband to rub his private member between his menstruating wife’s bottom cheeks without penetrating her anal? الاستمتاع بالحائض

Answer

All praise is due to Allah alone, and may the Salah and Salam of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions. To answer your question, we say while seeking all the success from Allah: It is permissible to be intimate by kissing, embracing, touching etc. parts that are above the navel and below the knee. This is permissible according to scholarly consensus and is based on the statement of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) wherein she stated that whenever Allah's Messenger (may the Salah and Salam of Allah be upon him) wanted to be intimate with anyone of his wives during her menses, he would order her to put on a lower covering (over the menstrual area) and then became intimate (without having intercourse). This report is documented in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. In a different report, reported by Muslim, it was narrated that the Messenger of Allah (may the Salah and Salam of Allah be upon him) would be intimate with his wives above the waist wrapper when they were menstruating. As for the ruling on being intimate with the wife during her menses in the area between the navel and the knees, without intercourse, scholars hold two different views: The first view states that it is permissible for one, who is able to control himself from having intercourse, which is the view of the Hanbali Madhab and a group of other scholars. The second view states that it is totally forbidden, which is the view of the majority of scholars from the Hanafi, Maliki and Shafi’e Madhabs. The most correct view, however, is the first view based on the following textual proofs: Imam Muslim reported that Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the companions asked the Prophet (may the Salah and Salam of Allah be upon him)   why the Jews would not eat or meet with their women in their houses, if any of their women was menstruating. Then, Allah, the Most High, revealed the ayah (interpretation of the meaning): {They ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is a harmful thing for a husband to have a sexual intercourse with his wife while she is having her menses, therefore, keep away from women during menses” [Quran 2:222]  The Messenger of Allah (may the Salah and Salam of Allah be upon him) said: “Do everything except intercourse.” This report is evidence that it is allowed to be intimate with the wife during her menses in all ways except intercourse. On the other hand, the proofs quoted by the advocates of the opposite view do not consider  evidence that it is not permissible to engage in intimacy between the navel and the knees, let alone that the statement of the Prophet (may the Salah and Salam of Allah be upon him): “Do everything except intercourse” overrides any other contrary understanding. That being said, it is permissible to be intimate between the bottom cheeks of your wife, if you are sure there will be no vaginal or anal penetration.   And Allah knows best.
