Dear respected Shaykh, assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. What is the ruling of adultery during the day in Ramadan?

ما حكم الزنا في نهار رمضان؟

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions. Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As to what follows: In response to your question, we say:   Adultery in Ramadan  is a major sin whether it is committed during the day or at night. The sin of committing adultery is particularly  serious in Ramadan because Ramadan is a time where the rewards for good deeds are multiplied, and sinning is very serious. Thus a Muslim should prevent himself from evil during this time.   Adultery reduces a person faith,  and makes a person fall into great sin, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The one who commits illegal sexual intercourse is not a believer at the time of committing illegal sexual intercourse” [al-Bukhari (6810)]. It is compulsory for a believer to hasten in repenting, seeking forgiveness, safeguarding Allah’s rights and doing good deeds because Allah the Exalted said, “And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds” [Hud: 114].
