Is it permissible to use the tongue to wet a finger when flipping the pages of the Quran? as it is easier to flip the pages using this way.

تقليب صفحات المصحف ببل الأصبع

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions.
As to what follows:
What is apparent is that it’s permissible to wet the finger with saliva for the purpose of flipping the pages of the Quran because there might be need to do that without any contempt.
Some jurists from the Shaafi madhab have permitted using gathered saliva to rub boards that have verses of the Quran written on them, and they justified that by necessity and absence of contempt, and this is more severe than wetting the finger to flip a page.
Some jurist from the Maliki madhab said that it is forbidden to wet the finger with saliva foe the purpose of flipping Quranic pages because it is unclean and the Quran should be safeguarded from that.
What is correct is that there is nothing wrong with that if it is done out of necessity.
And Allah knows best.
