Fatwas / Fasting / Do anesthetic for the teeth, insulin injections, inhalers for asthma patients nullify

Question

Dear respected Shaykh, assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. I went to the dentist during the day in Ramadan and he anesthetized me under the gums and began to clean my teeth. Does this anesthetic break fasting or not? Is it permissible for diabetic people to take the insulin injection before Maghrib? What is the ruling of using inhalers during the day in Ramadan due to necessity?

إبرة بنج الأسنان وإبرة الأنسولين وبخاخ الربو هل تفطر؟

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions. Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As to what follows: In response to your question, we say: Inhalers, anesthetics and insulin injections do not break fasting according to the most correct opinion from the two opinions of the scholars on the issue. This applies regardless of whether a person uses them out of necessity or not, because they are not food or drink or similar to them, Thus there is no basis for the nullification of fasting through these things. Therefore, your fasting is valid. And Allah knows best. Dr. Khalid al-Mosleh   11/09/1424
