Dear respected Shaykh, assalamu alaikum wa rahm atullahi wa barakatuh. What is the ruling of giving Zakat to one’s brother or parents? دفع الزكاة للأخ والوالدين

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions. Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As to what follows: In response to your question, we say: It is permissible for a person to give Zakat to his brother or father provided two conditions are met: -The brother should be poor and be from the recipients of Zakat. -It should not be compulsory for the Zakat-giver to financially support his brother or father. If this is the case then he should not give Zakat to these people.
