Question
Dear respected Shaykh, assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. A woman owns an amount of gold and silver which has reached nisab and she did not pay its Zakat for a number of years, and she knows the number of years which she did not pay Zakat. What should she do? A worker was imprisoned for a number of years and he was later released. He received the salary for those years in one batch. Should he pay Zakat for those years?

Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh As to what follows: In response to your question, we say: Answer to the first question: The woman should calculate the number of years and the value of gold, and pay Zakat for the past years. Answer to the second question: If the money was being deposited in his account then he should pay Zakat for the past years. If he only received his money after his release from prison then he should pay the Zakat for one year according to a group of scholars.
