Question
Dear respected Shaykh, assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. A lot of Zakat is due from me. I repented to Allah, and made an intention to repay it. Is it permissible for me to pay a part of it every year with the Zakat of that particular year?

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions. Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As to what follows: In response to your question, we say: It is compulsory upon you to pay the delayed Zakat as soon as possible, and it is not permitted for you to delay in paying it if you can afford it. I advise you to record this as a debt due from you to avoid dying before paying the due Zakat.
